5 Tips for a Healthier Life

Life can be hectic. With so many responsibilities, making your health a priority can be a challenge. But the truth is, simple steps towards a healthier lifestyle can have a significant impact on other areas of your life.  When you’re in good health and properly managing your stress, you’ll perform at your best. Here are five easy tips for living a healthier life.

1.  Get Moving Best For Healthier Life

In today’s fast-paced world, most of us are busier than ever. We’re always looking at screens, answering emails on the go, and catching up with work calls and projects wherever we may be.

The ironic thing is, we’re sedentary while doing so many of these things. The technology designed to make life more comfortable and convenient can also keep us sitting still. Worse, staring down at a screen all day can cause neck and back pain.

Increasing your daily activity level is one of the best things you can do to improve your health. Physical activity can help you burn extra calories, maintain a healthy weight, and get your blood moving to improve your circulation. Aim for 30 minutes of moderate exercise five days a week.

You don’t have to hit the gym to get moving. Here are a few suggestions to add more movement into your daily routine:

  • Skip the elevator and take the steps.
  • Go for a swim.
  • Take the dog for a walk.
  • Stroll around the neighborhood.
  • Pick a space on the far side of the parking lot.

Every bit helps, and regular activity can help you avoid back pain or hip pain that comes with sitting in one spot too long.

2. Make Healthy Eating a Habit.

When many of us hear “healthy eating,” we think of a diet, but healthy eating isn’t about depriving ourselves of specific categories of foods or making dessert forbidden. It’s about making balanced food choices, so you can maximize your nutritional health and enjoy the occasional treat.

The easiest way to establish healthy eating habits is to choose a variety of whole foods. Get plenty of fruits and vegetables — aim for five servings each day. Choose lean proteins, including turkey, chicken, fish, and beans.

Don’t forget grains. While carbohydrates sometimes get a bad rap, they’re a great source of energy. Choose whole grains when you can for a healthy boost, and make sure you support good bone strength by keeping dairy products on your daily menu.

In general, try to avoid processed foods and unnecessary additives.

3. Stay Hydrated.

According to conventional advice, we should drink eight, eight-ounce glasses of water a day. However, the 8×8 rule doesn’t count the hydration our bodies get from foods and other liquids, nor is it right for everybody. New guidelines suggest between nine and 13 cups of water for adults is optimal. Most of us don’t walk around with a measuring cup, but a water bottle does the trick. For reference, one cup is eight ounces.

Remember to take cues from your body. If the weather’s hot or you’re working out, you may need some extra water. If your urine is dark, you likely need to drink more water.

There’s nothing wrong with coffee, tea, fruit juices, or sports drinks, but water is the top choice for healthy hydration levels.

4. Make Healthy Weight a Goal.

Maintaining a healthy weight isn’t about fitting into skinny jeans, although if that goal keeps you motivated, go for it.

Excess body fat can leave you more susceptible to serious health issues like cancer and diabetes. Your heart and lungs have to work harder, and you’ll probably feel like you don’t have much energy.

Carrying extra weight also negatively impacts pain management. While our chiropractors are happy to help, losing a few pounds might be another way to ease your back pain.

While many diets claim to be a quick fix, weight management’s best approach involves healthy lifestyle changes. If you can move more and take in fewer calories by making healthy food choices, you can achieve a healthy weight and avoid long-term health issues.

5. Get Your Rest For Healthier Life

If you’re dragging during the day, you probably need more sleep. Your goal should be seven to eight hours of ZZZZZs every night.

Does that sound impossible? It’s easier if you make solid sleep a priority. Routine is vital, and it helps establish regular times to get up and go to sleep. Don’t let your screens keep you from a good night’s rest. Give TV and social media a break to give your brain time to get into sleep mode.

Remember our tips on healthy eating and regular exercise? Bonus! Both make it easier to develop good sleep habits.
